Restorative Yoga For Athletes

In this restorative class geared towards athletes, you'll discover the ways that yoga can enhance athletic performance. This practice will address the tight hips, hamstrings, and shoulders that many athletes experience as a result of running, cycling or swimming, lifting, and all the other forms of exercise that create tightness throughout the body. Breath techniques (pranayama) will be included to help athletes learn to remain focused and present during their workouts, which is especially useful in endurance events. Students will learn yoga poses to integrate into a post-workout stretch, as well as how to modify poses for their individual needs.

Vin + Yin

Vinyasa flow styles of yoga target the muscles, cardio vascular system, and generally employ rhythmic repetitive movements to stress the fibres and cells of the muscles. Being elastic and moist, the muscles appreciate this form of exercise. Whereas Yin yoga is a centring, quiet practice and focuses on the body's connective tissue. Both forms practiced together are a perfect blend.

This class will begin with a warming and heart-opening yang practice allowing prana or energy to begin flowing in the body. The second half of the class will focus on yin poses held longer to stretch the connective tissues helping us to relax into the deepest layers of the body. You will be sure to leave feeling calm, peaceful and balanced after this healing practice.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa is a unique style of yoga where postures are linked together in a continuous, challenging and creative flow that combines strength and flexibility while toning the body and clearing the mind.   Students are encouraged to move at their own pace with intention and to listen to their body as they explore their own edge and discover inner strength.
